Basketball is a team sport which is basically to introduce a ball in a hoop, from which hangs a network, giving it an aspect of basket. It is also known as a basketball (or basketball) or just basketball, by Castilianization of its English name: basketball. It was invented by James Naismith in December 1891 at the Springfield YMCA. It is played with two teams of five people, or quarters for 4 periods of 10 (FIBA) or 12 (NBA) minutes each. At the end of the second quarter, it takes a rest, usually 10 to 20 minutes depending on the tournament’s own rules which the party belongs. There is also a modality, mainly for the disabled, which is played in a wheelchair, virtually the same rules as regular basketball. basketball history: Basketball began as a response to the need for any winter sport in North America. The professor at the University of Springfield, Massachusetts, James Naismith (a Canadian professor) was entrusted the mission in 1891 to devise a game that could play indoors, because the winters in the area hampered the realization of some activities to outdoors.James Naismith analyzed the sports that were practiced at the time, whose dominant feature was the force or physical contact, and thought of something sufficiently active, that required more skill than strength and not had much physical contact. The Canadian remembered an old childhood game called “Duck on a Rock” (duck on a rock), which was to try to reach an object placed on a rock by throwing a stone. Naismith called the manager of the school a few boxes of 50 cm in diameter but all she got were a few baskets of peaches, which sent hanging on the railings of the upper gallery surrounding the gym, to a certain height. Naismith devised a set of thirteen rules for the fledgling sport. These were: 1.The ball can be thrown in any direction with one or both hands. 2.The ball can be beaten in any direction with one or both hands, but never with the fist. 3.A player can not run with the ball. The player must throw from where you take it. 4.The ball must be held with or hands. The arms or body must not be used for holding. 5.No allowed to carry the shoulder, holding, pushing, striking or tripping an opponent. The first infringement of this rule by any person shall count as a foul, the second shall disqualify him until that goal is made or, if there was evident intent to injure during the rest of the game. No substitution shall allow. 6.Se considered foul is striking the ball with the fist, violations of Rules 3 and 4 and as described in Rule 5. 7.Si a team makes three consecutive fouls (without the opponent has made none in this range), it will point to their opponents. 8.The goal shall be made when the ball is thrown or beaten from the track, falls into the basket and stays there. If the ball rests on the edge and the opponent moves the basket will count as one point. 9.Where the ball goes out of bounds, be thrown into the field and played by the first person to touch it. In case of dispute the umpire shall throw it straight into the field. The thrower has five seconds. If it takes longer, the ball passes the opponent. 10.The umpire, “umpire” and penalized players shall note the fouls, also notify the referee (umpire, see next point) when a team commits three consecutive fouls.
