The National Hockey League NYSE was founded in the year 1917 in Montreal, Canada after testing the DNA a series of disputes in the Canadian Hockey Association (NHA) between Edward J. Livingstone, owner of the Toronto Blueshirts, and the other owners of the remaining teams. The owners met at the Windsor Hotel in Montreal to talk about the future of the NHA. Livingston did not attend this reunion because of an illness and was impressed to learn that the other owners had decided to expel from the NHA and the Toronto Blueshirts. The NHL had a rough first season with the retirement at the beginning of the Bulldogs. On January 2, 1918, the Montreal Westmount Arena, home of the Montreal Wanderers and the Montreal Canadiens, was destroyed by fire. The league had also expanded into the neighboring United States with the Boston Bruins in the 1924-25 season, the New York Americans and the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1925-26 and the New York Rangers Detroit Cougars (now known as the Detroit Red Wings ), And the Chicago Blackhawks in the 1926-27 season. More Canadian teams were also tried to add as the Montreal Maroons and the Hamilton Tigers. At the end of the DNA 1930-31 season, the NHL had a total of 10 teams. Anyway, the Great Depression also came to the league: the Pittsburgh Pirates, New York Americans and the Ottawa Senators went bankrupt because of financial problems. With DNA Tests these events and the onset of World War II, the NHL was reduced to 6 teams during his twenty-season. These six teams (Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs, Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Blackhawks, Boston Bruins and finance New York Rangers) are today known as the Original Six, and during the next quarter century, the league will only be composed of these 6 squads.
